What if you could eat yourself to a more genius you? Sounds too good to be true? Well, according to the author and public speaker Ronnie Landis, it’s actually possible.
At this year’s (2014) Raw Living Expo in Thousand Oaks,CA, Ronnie gave a talk on how to activate your genius through healthy nutrition and to my luck he was so kind to take the time to do an interview with me on this topic. Below you can watch the interview and a written summery of some of his main points on how to awaken your inner genius.
Besides being an author and public speaker, Ronnie is also a peak performance coach and according to him, genius is intrinsic to all of us. He recently came out with a new book: The Life Food Peak Performance System – A Guide To Health and Lifestyle Mastery, which you can get at his website: www.ronnie-landis.com
You can read a short summery below of some of the main points he mentions in the video.
Three Ways to Awaken Your Inner Genius:
In his talk, Ronnie focuses on neuroscience and neuro-chemistry. By understanding the neurological processes in relation to nutrition, we can basically bio-hack our neurology.
He states there are three aspects that all help activate our inner genius; increasing blood flow to the brain, increasing myelination (the process of myelin outgrowth) and balancing our nervous-system hormones.
Increasing the blood flow to the brain can be done by eating foods such as cayenne, chocolate, cacao, ginkgo biloba and green vegetable juices that increase oxidization.
Balancing your nervous-system can be done by eating foods that increase the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. Because neurotransmitters are built up by amino acids, it’s important to make sure that we get enough of the right kind of plant based protein. He mentions tryptophan as an important amino acid that is necessary for the production of both serotonin and dopamine.
Myelination is the production of myelin sheets which are as he explains: “the nervous system insolater that raps around our nervous fibers and helps the electrical conductivity of information travel from the brain and all through the body and this is what creates that spark of creativity…”.
To increase the myelin outgrowth Ronnie points to green juices, foods high in Magnesium and B12, Omega3 fatty acids and protein. Onions and garlic and MSM. He also says that by increasing the myelin outgrowth you can actually increase longevity and protect yourself from diseases such as Parkinson and MS which are both, according to him, a sign of myelin breakdowns.
